This is my first time getting brand new subs and I dont want to mess them up. How do you break subs in? These are 2 kicker slim 12's if that matters. Thanks.

step one: mount and wire sub in box
step two: Hook sub box to amplifier supplying rms-ish power.
Step three:........
Step four: Profit

Some people will argue til they are blue in the face that subs need a break in period. Others will say hook it up and let it rip.

I like option 2 because if you are not overpowering your subs...they will loosen up on their own.

well my box is tuned real low...the dd i have in there now cant keep up. about 32hz. anyways was playing it and all the sudden it stopped. we have only assumed that the leads came apart at the coil. oh and it ripped the leads off the spider where they were sewn in. we will see when we tear it down today. my new one i was given a deal on and the guy built it with the leads different to let it go low.

ive always just turned the gain on the amp to half of what i plan to keep it at for a few days then crank it up.
IMHO, not the proper way to adjust power levels. When you change gain settings, you change many factors.

Most want you to 'break them in' to reach optimal parameters, as far as loud, install, set gains with a DMM, and rock on.
