NBS - What Shocks Do You Run - 4/6 Drop

I have Belltech Nitro drop shocks on the front and Belltech Nitro Active shocks on the rear. These are the original designed Nitros about five years old.

They have always been a bit on the stiff side but with 245/70/16 tires on the OEM wheels, the ride was tolerable and the truck handled great in the turns.

After switching from 16" wheels to the 20's with 275/45 tires it's a lot stiffer/rougher ride... which I expected. I'm also worried I may loose the tires contact in the rear while cornering on slightly bumpy roads under acceleration. (I may be old but I still enjoy driving)

Any suggestions on shocks that will give me a smoother/softer ride?

What do you run and are you happy with the ride and performance?

i have heard alot of guys going with Monroe Sensa-Tracs
not for sure what part #'s with a 4/6 drop, but i'd also like to know.
I saw a post about that a few days ago and copied the numbers down. The guy posting said he did some measuring and came up with these part numbers:

37078 for the Rear, 37072 for the Fronts.

I did some searching and I believe these are Nissan Xterra (rear)

and Dodge, Mitsubishi and Toyota mini trucks (front)

Would like to have some conformation on this if I'm going to order parts for other vehicles!

I have doestech shocks and everyone here says they are great, they are supposed to be the same as summit shocks, but they are pretty stiff and i have never really been able to tell if i like them because i bought my whole lowering kit used and i have no idea how many miles the guy put on the shocks! He was a member on here but i forget his name.

What's happening with the rear?

What part#'s are your Monroe's and are they for a 4/6?
when i hit a bump, it feels like the rear is shimming up and down. im going to replace my u-bolts and re-torque everything and check my leaf bushings when im doin my helper bag kit. hopefully i can figure it out

that is the correct part numbers red, i have 37078s on the rear of mine, and i absolutely loe it, not too stiff, but not too soft. the 6" drop needs the 37078 for monroe sensatracs due to the compressed and extended lengths which is obviously the 37078s for the rear
I'm wondering if I'll get anymore travel in the rear with a less stiff shock. The new 275/45's are a little close on just the right (pass) bedside wheel opening. It looked like I may have just barely rubbed when I had the old wheels/tires in the bed driving home after the new ones were mounted... I'll roll the lip if I have to.

I'm going to order those Monroe's next week!

BTW: Is the front # 37072 also correct?

Thanks again man!

I've got 275/45/20's also. I've had Doetsch Tech(stiff) then went to Sensa Tracs(kinda soft). The DT shocks made me mad because I had one go out after about 5K miles.

That sensa trac # is for Nissans. The model I remember is a 98 Frontier.
I kinda want the pawpaw ride quality & wasn't happy so I went to helper bags. The bags definitely made it ride better but I'm still not happy. I'm still trying to find the ideal pressure. Next up is shock extenders, if that doesn't work, I'll try the Bell Tech street performers or McGaughy's. I guess I'm expecting to get it to ride like a Cadillac & that's not gonna happen.

It's funny that you mention worrying about the rear tires breaking loose, I actually had that happen a few days & if it had been raining, I would have lost it.

Perfect timing lol

Looking at the oil on the tube it may have been there awhile.
Those Belltech's were just way to stiff for me. After I winched the spare tire back into the rear it helped to smooth out the ride a bit. Looking forward to getting the Monroes on all 4 corners and getting somewhat of a softer ride.
