Default 4bt cummins swap

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone has done or considered doing a 4bt cummins swap. I have read on a bunch of pople who have done this in my era of truck and it seems pretty easy. If you have what tranny would you recomend?

I've looked into it, the bread truck 4bts usually come bolted to a TH400, a common swap is to put a 700r4 behind it for the OD.

4btswaps.com and search around the buildup threads for some 73-87 and 88-98 swaps. Pretty straightforward swap since most breadtrucks ran GM accessories and a TH400 based transmission (TH475)

the diesels don't scare me I actually prefer them. I've considered dropping a 4bt into my 85 1/2 ton, and most likely will if/when my 6.2 gives out. my dad does a lot with the 5.9 (6bt) engines. I would personally stick with a NV4500 trans, but make sure you get one with a new drive shaft in it because of the 5th gear problem, fix that and it's a perfect 5 speed manual!
1985 GMC Shortbox 4x4 6.2L Diesel NV4500, custom transfercase, HX35 turbocharged, 4" lift, 15x12.5 33's Toyo MT's. rebuilt engine myself, did I mention im a GIRL?

Got me a great Truck lovin boyfriend, he loves the Dodges with Cummins.

Check out my blog for more pictures and an occasional update on my projects!!
